Details on Bulletproof Vests

Details on Bulletproof Vests

Army men, police personnel and security men use several kinds of gears to protect themselves from different hazards. In the early nineteenth century, researchers found that most of the army men died due to injury to torso.

As a result, scientists made extensive research and developed bulletproof body armors, which not only protect the torso, but also considerably bring down mortality rate at war fronts. However, though these armors are bulletproof, but the impact of high intensity bullets may cause internal injury to individuals.

These bulletproof armors are known as bullet proof vests or bulletproof vests. Modern day’s bulletproof vests cover the entire torso (chest, back and abdomen) of the user. They safeguard the individual's body from revolver bullets, hand made pistols bullets and from small fragments of grenades. Apart from, soldiers, security men and police officers, even affluent people or political leaders wear bulletproof vest to protect themselves.

There are several types of bulletproof vests. Police officers and security guards use simple types of protective vests, which are made of hard plates and protective clothing. These vests cannot stop high impact gunshot and to sustain higher caliber bullets.

These days' police officers have started using Kevlar vests. These types of bullet proof vests have several layers of interwoven fabrics or metals such as ceramic, Kevlar or titanium. These vests have the ability to stop bullets from penetrating into the wearer's body. Kevlar vests are five times tensile stronger than the steel metal of similar weight.

Other types of bullet proof vests are made of Vectran. Vectran is a tough material and is much stronger as compared to Kevlar vests. Soldiers and mariners use such types of vests.

Working Of The Bullet Proof Vest:

Bullet proof vest spreads the entire energy induced by the bullet, laterally all over the vest and deforms the bullet simultaneously. It works same as that of a soccer net, which stops the soccer ball without rebounding it.

This type of collision is elastic. If a bullet proof vest contains too many plates of ceramic or titanium, then bullet may deflect. Instead of hard ceramic pieces, if the bullet proof vest contains only bulletproof clothing, then it does not deflect.

Gun Cabinet or Gun Safe- Which Do You Need?

Gun Cabinet or Gun Safe- Which Do You Need?
By: Trisha L. Wagner

If you have guns in your home for hunting, protection or recreational shooting, you need to have somewhere to keep them. Many people love to display their guns in a beautiful gun cabinet, with a wood finish and glass doors so everyone can see them. Others choose to keep their guns in a gun safe- a locked, metal cabinet that securely stores the guns, but doesn't display them for view. Which one is the best choice for you?

More and more people are choosing gun safes over display cabinets. A gun safe will prevent your guns from being taken out without your knowledge- which could thwart a burglar or more importantly, save a life. If you have children in your home, it's a no-brainer- you need a gun safe to keep these weapons from being discharged accidentally or by the wrong people.

Some high quality gun safes have the security of a locked metal cabinet, with the look of wood and glass for display. These safes use a thick, tempered glass and a wood veneer, so they serve as furniture while keeping your firearms secure. You can find gun safes that resemble cedar chests or others that look just like a armoire, so you can keep your guns hidden while having a lovely piece of furniture to display.

Many states have gun safety laws requiring firearms to be in a locked cabinet for safety reasons. Owning a gun safe meets this legal requirement. You can get either electronic locks or mechanical locks on your gun safe. Mechanical locks have the greatest reliability, although they take longer to open than electronic locks. You can also purchase mechanical locks that have both a combination and a key lock to prevent anyone from trying to guess the combination.

Some gun safes also protect against fire and flood. A fire-protective lining works by retaining moisture. These safes are also required to have a small heater inside to prevent the moisture from causing condensation and producing rust on the guns. These are likely to be higher priced gun safes because they provide greater protection. The top end of the gun safe market includes safes with vault doors. Vault doors are typically used on walk-in gun safes or entire rooms used to house guns.

The best gun safes made in the United States will have a certification proving they have been tested by the UL (Underwriter's Laboratory.) These ratings are called a Residential Security Container (RSC) and come in a variety of grades, according to the time they are certified to provide protection. A RSC rating will guarantee the gun safe will open and close10,000 times safely.

A gun safe is definitely a good investment if you have guns in your home, especially if you have children. Owning guns is a constitutional right in the US, and with rights come responsibilities. Keeping your guns under lock and key so they are kept away from anyone who could mishandle them is a safe, responsible choice. If you enjoy displaying your guns for view, you can choose a gun safe with the details of a gun cabinet and show off your collection while still maintaining safety levels for everyone.
